Rights of a Daughter in Islam

Daughters are the noble blessings from Allah and a special gift to parents. Allah grants daughter in a family when he is happy.

How was Daughters Treated before Islam?

Before the advent of Islam, daughters were considered as a Curse and the status received was very unkind to Arab culture. They were buried alive or being married to an old person and was a sign of utter shame to a family.

After the dawn of one faith, the rights of women were accredited and appreciated. The rights of women involve sisters, daughters, mothers, wives etc.

What Are Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) Teachings?

In esteem of knowing rights of a daughter, Prophet Muhammad promised paradise to the one who would give attention to his daughters’ upbringing.

There is a saying in regard to this:

Malik reported Allah Messenger (P.B.U.H) as saying: He, who brought up two girls properly till they grew up, he and I would come (together) (very closely) on the Day of Resurrection, and he interlaced his fingers (for explaining the point of nearness between him and that person).

10 Rights and Duties of a Daughter in Islam

Islam religion who endows rights for everyone in the society. Some of them mention below:

1. Religion rates women as equal to men and there is no discrimination of one gender against another.
2. They have a right to education and can work like a man to earn a livelihood.
3. She belongs to her paternal family and after the marriage, the bond remains the same.
4. She has the right to have financial support until she acquires a husband.
5. They should receive love and fair treatment.
6. Islam indicates her share of a father property. It is to be given at every cost.
7. She has a right to choose her husband and she cannot be obliged to marry anyone,
8. If by the will of Allah, she becomes a widow or divorced. She can go back to her paternal family where she should be supported financially and treated with affection.
9. Our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) refers to show her kindness as the best charity.
10. They are free to speak, express their views and ideas in front of the society.

How do the Anas (RA) indicate the proximity level of this beautiful bond?

It could not be a better example than this to understand the importance of rights of the daughter in Islam. Prophet (P.B.U.H) said according to Anas (RA) reported, “He who raises two daughters until their puberty will be with me in Paradise like this” and he symbolized the proximity by showing two of his fingers with a slight gap between them.” (Muslim).

4 Duties over Rights

Where there are some prevailed rights, daughters are also ordered to embrace their duties. The responsibilities should fulfill from both the sides so that the peace prevails.

1. They have to cover their heads and refrain from Na-Mahram
2. It is a foremost duty to keep the dignity of being a woman.
3. She should be loyal to her Mahram (Husband) and keep her trust strong.
4. She is responsible to take care of her family and do house chores.

So, when a girl is born in your house; celebrate as much as you can and make her your ticket to Paradise (Jannah). Bless them with all rights and the one to your property as they deserve correspondence in Islam.
