Mix Marriage
Marriage is a means of obeying Allah ﷻ by attempting to set up a family upon the Sunnah. It is one of the most imperative verdicts in one’s life. This relationship is a way of finding serenity in the heartfelt relation to another soul. This association is a reciprocated expedition towards a much higher spiritual love. The mere idea of taking two people from independent families, with contrasting foundations, backgrounds, and identities, and uniting them to form a new bond of mutual devotion should be cause for reflection and awe. The operative idea here is that two unique individual bond together and unite for Allah (ﷻ).
Marrying someone with a varied background
The idea of marrying someone from a diverse race, culture and ethnicity is almost inconceivable for many Muslims. Cross-cultural mix marriages are dejected or even prohibited in many Muslim households. Since some families may think themselves higher than others. Fear of marrying outside their cultures is also found.
“o people! We created you from one man and one woman and made you branches and tribes that you may recognize one another. Undoubtedly, the most respected among you in the sight of Allah is who is more-pious, verily, Allah is knowing, Aware.
Quran (49:13)
This shows that it is not favored between one interracial over another, except for piety and belief. Islam empowers acquaintance and love between the interracial. Also one of the means of knowing other individuals and races is marriage. Allah ﷻ clearly urge us to knowing each other in the above mentioned verse.
Lessons from Seerah
When we look into Seerah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) we see that He married to different women from different races, tribes and religions. Hazrat Maria (RA) was Coptic and Christian, she converted to Islam later. Hazrat Safia (RA) was Jewish from Israelites, however accepted Islam afterwards.
This shows Sunnah of Prophet (PBUH) encourages us to tie the bond of marriage with people belonging to other races and cultures.
Uniting Hearts
We are meant to focus on commonalities and appreciate the difference. The diversity of ethnicity, race or cast does not mean that some are better or any worse; it is a way of distinguishing one tribe from another. The Weakness comes by division while strength lies in harmony and cohesion. In Surah Al-e-Imran Allah ﷻ remind us:
And hold fast, all together, by the rope of Allah, and be not divided among themselves. And remember Allah favor upon you. Remember wehn there was enmity among you, He joined your hearts together then, by Hisgrace, you became brothers together and you were upon the brink of a pit of fire, then He rescued you fromit; Thus Allah explains to you His Sign; that haply you may ack guidance.
Quran (3:103)
Conclusion
One of the best and greatest sign demonstrating Allah’s Might, Ability and Power is that he created numerous races of individuals and of different colors. It is indeed Allah’s Wisdom and Will. Allah ﷻ says in the Quran:
And of His signs is the creation of heavens and earth, and the diversity of your tongues and colours. No doubt, in it are signs for those who hear.
(Quran 30:22)
Our religion is a beautiful religion. The Institution of marriage is one aspect of it. Most of the barriers, conditions and requirements Muslim families lay out are baseless. Quran disproves such mindset which sets hurdles for youth Muslim marriage. It is time we embrace the diversity that subsist within our communities.
