Duas for Safe Traveling to Always Remember
Traveling is a part of life. Whether it is for business, visiting family, pilgrimage, or relaxing and spending time off, we seem to spend more time away from home than ever, on the move or in the air. Particularly for Muslims, every movement from one place to another is not just a physical journey but a spiritual journey to Saudi Arabia. We need to do this activity with Allah’s protection and blessings in mind, and this is the importance of Duas for safe traveling.
Duas are short supplications (duas) that can provide spiritual protection, peace of heart and mind, and a sense of divine protection. There are some essential duas that every traveler should not neglect to remember before leaving home.
The Main Dua for Traveling
The most famous dua for traveling safely was taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself. Before embarking on a journey, he would say:
“Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqaliboon.”
Translation: “Glory is to Him who has subjected this (means of transport) to us, and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and indeed, to our Lord, we will surely return.”
(Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14)
This dua is a reminder of Allah’s control over everything and reminds us that we rely on Him to provide safety.
Dua When Exiting the House
A simple but effective dua can be recited before we begin our journey, when we simply step out of the house:
“Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallah, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.”
Translation: “In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power nor might except with Allah.”
This prayer guarantees you are under Allah’s protection from the first step of your journey.
Dua for Protection while Travelling
While you are on the road or in the air, you can continue to ask Allah for protection by reciting this entire dua:
“Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min wa’tha’i as-safar, wa kaabatil-manzar, wa soo’il-munqalabi fil-maali wal-ahli wal-walad.”
Translation: “O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the difficulties of travel, from having a change of heart and being in a bad predicament, and I seek refuge in You from an ill fate in wealth and family.”
This dua specifically seeks refuge from all physical, emotional, and material harms that may arise while traveling.
Dua When Arriving at a Location
Upon entering a place, it is Sunnah to say:
“A’udhu bikalimaatillahit-taammaati min sharri ma khalaq.”
Translation: “I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.”
This dua is a protection shield that will help prevent unseen harm and keep you safe in strange surroundings.
Value of Making Dua
Making duas for safe traveling part of your travel plans is not a customary tradition but rather a reminder that Allah is the protector. Duas are short and simple to remember but carry unlimited spiritual weight. Whether you are driving across town or traveling to another continent, you should never underestimate the value of making dua.
Before your journey, take some time to collect your thoughts, recite these meaningful duas, and leave your safety in the care of the One who controls the universe.
