Marriage is a very sacred institution in Islam. It is the first relationship that Allah created when He created Hazrat Adam (AS) and Bibi Hawwa (AS). It is the foundation of any Islamic society. Islam describes husband and wife as “garments” of each other. This indicates the level of importance of married life in Islam. The purpose of our clothes is to cover ourselves, provide comfort and make us feel good. That is how husband and wife are supposed to make each other feel. Allah says in the Holy Quran:-
“And among His signs is this that He created for you mates from among yourselves that you may dwell in tranquility with them and He has put love and mercy between your hearts. Verily in that are signs for those who reflect.” (Quran 30:21)
Married life provides love, peace, and mercy for the couples. It provides a sense of protection and belongingness to the mates. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is reported to have said: –
“The best people of my nation (Ummat) are those who get married and have chosen their wives and the worst people of my nation are those who have kept away from marriage and are passing their lives as bachelors.”
Islamic Way of Married Life
Islam gives a lot of rights to spouses over each other. They are supposed to treat each other with utmost love, affection, and care. They should love each other for the sake of Allah as every relation that Allah has created should ideally bring one closer to Rehman.
Respect is also very important for any relationship. Marriage is built on mutual respect. The couple should treat each other with great respect and be grateful for all the duties that they perform for each other. When a wife cooks for her husband and takes care of his children and his home in his absence. The husband should be grateful to his wife. When the husband goes out to earn a living from dawn to dusk the wife should treat him with respect and gratitude when he returns home.
Right of Husband
It is the right of a husband that his wife dresses and adorns for him. She should look attractive to him. It is the right of the husband to remain faithful to his wife. Allah does not like those who remain unfaithful in married life.
It is very vital to have clear and explicit communication without any barriers between a husband and a wife. This reduces the chances of any misunderstandings and rifts between them. It is very important to have good talking terms between the couple. They both should listen to each other’s problems and try to understand their grievances if any. When faced with a difficult situation. They should try to resolve the issue together amicably.
A couple should be very careful of each other’s needs. A wife should not feel any hesitation in telling her husband if she needs anything. The husband should never be refused by his wife if he needs anything from her. The purpose of a couple should be to provide each other with their needs and make life comfortable for them.
So it is in the best interest of believers to get married and earn the blessings of Allah. Rehman rewards believers when they get married by increasing the worth of their prayers. Rahim makes a promise to the Muslims that when they get married Allah increases the provisions for the family. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: –
“Give spouses to your single ones, because Allah makes their morality better (improves it) (under the shadow of marriage) and expands their sustenance and increases their generosity (human values).”
