Shaban – The Month of Bountiful Rewards

Each Islamic month holds its own importance, but there are two that have been decreed the most valuable and beneficial months: Ramadan and Shaban. The month of Shaban lies between Rajab and Ramadan. In this holy month, the smallest of good deeds are capable of earning the highest of rewards.  The most important aspect of this month is that the reward for worshipping in Shaban is three hundred times more than that of any other month, except Ramadan.

Fasting In Shaban

Fasting In Shaban

Fasting purifies the body. It is a form of sunnah to fast during Shaban. There is no better way of worshipping than refraining from food and drink, all for the sake of Allah. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) loved fasting in the month of Shaban and Ramadan.

Our Prophet (PBUH) stated the following:

“This month is between Rajab and Ramadan; People are ignorant of this month, which is between Rajab and Ramadan. It is the month in which the deeds are presented to the Lord of the Worlds. I want my deeds to be presented to Allah when I am fasting.”

Fasting in Shaban helps cleanse the soul, making the person even more prepared to greet Ramadan.

Our Prophet (PBUH) stated:

“Shaban cleanses the sins.”

Performing extra prayers and doing Dhikr in Shaban

Performing extra prayers

In Shaban, each prayer and each form of worship brings more fruits of Paradise than any other month (except Ramadan). Reciting a single word of the Quran provides us with ten rewards, but in the month of Shaban, the rewards are multiplied three hundred fold.

The Protective Nature of Shaban

Worshipping does not only increase our rewards, but it also provides us with protection against all evil. It is very easy to fall prey to the workings of the devil, as he is well known for whispering doubt inside the mind of Muslims. Worshipping and taking God’s name in Shaban provides protection against all delusion and doubt.

The rewards that are reaped during this month provide compensation from an earlier misdeed that a person may have unknowingly committed. Thus, the month of Shaban has a shield-like nature providing shelter against any present or future sin.

Respecting Ramadan

The month of Shaban is followed by Ramadan. Therefore, fasting or any other form of worship done in this month is a form of respect given to Ramadan.

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stated the following:

“The fasting performed in Shaban to show respect to Ramadan.”

Conclusion

There are some fake beliefs spread about this month and people of sub continent especially prepare specific cuisine, play fireworks etc. all these are pure biddah and has nothing to do with the sacredness of Shaban.

The month of Shaban is a gift from Allah to the believers. Allah has blessed this entire month for us – all rewards are multiplied. We can take full advantage of this month if we make use of the days and nights provided to us for worship.

May Allah bless us all with the wisdom needed to walk the right path and to extract maximum benefits from this holy month, Ameen.
