Maintaining the Spiritual High
December 2016 Umrah:
After performing Umrah, usually the very first question which pops up in one’s mind is that for how long will this spiritual high, last. Every pilgrim decides to practice all the preaching of Islam, but once they land back home, it does not seem that easy.
Shared under are a few points which will help you in maintaining that escalated level of spirituality after performing December Umrah:
Be Practical and Stay Realistic:
One of the Hadiths mentions that Allah likes those who are consistent in their actions (good deed), may them be a few. Remind yourself that you are a human being and you might not be able to maintain the same level of emotional and spiritual high after performing Umrah, therefore, you won’t be able to worship as enthusiastically as you used to do during Umrah. So, stick to few small and manageable ones. Make sure that you do them sincerely and consistently. That’s what Allah wants from you.
Stay Away from Sins:
Bear in mind that after being completely purified, your clean spirit identifies your new sins more easily. Remember, you would not stay that pure forever neither does Allah expects you to be. Allah knows the best of everything and he knows that all of mankind sins, yet, to him, the best kind is the one who repents and return to Allah. Realize that you might slip, but you should realize that you did wrong and repent immediately. This way, you can keep your soul as pure as possible, (Allah Willing). For the sins, you might commit and not realize (like hurting someone unintentionally), after performing Umrah in the month of December, make a habit of saying Astagfaar and to ask for Allah’s forgiveness, every night before sleeping.
It is stated that Prophet (PBUH) used to make made Astagfaar 100 times a day! So, it is a Sunnah practice. Keep saying it and get rewards of following Sunnah in addition to getting your sins forgiven.
Stay Away From Spiritual Filth:
To maintain the spiritual high after performing Umrah in December, avoid anything which might pollute your mind and soul. Refrain from activities likes listening to music, going unnecessarily to gatherings involving non-mehrams, putting on revealing clothes, etc. Remind yourself of Allah’s wrath and instead of all the unhealthy activities, recite Quran, listen to bayans or engage yourself in social work.
Leaving Makkah is a very saddening experience. The reality that you actually have to go back strikes very strongly when the pilgrim is performing the final Tawaf and leaves the Mosque. It’s the utmost desire of any Muslim to perform Hajj and Umrah as many times as possible. To make this wish come true, be thankful to Allah. Show him great gratitude as Allah promises us that if we are grateful to him, He will grant us more:
“And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.”
[Qur’an: Chapter 14, Verse 7]
May all the Muslims get a chance to perform Hajj and Umrah at-least once in a life-time and May Allah enable us all to maintain the same emotional and spiritual high after such spiritual journeys, forever. Follow the above mentioned simple steps to enjoy everlasting spiritual high after performing December Umrah.
